First male client

Usually drugs services treat more male than female. Strangely, enough I only did my first male client assesment today. So far most of my clients have been alcoholic ladies with child protection and domestic violence issues.

What exactly do you do for the Alcoholic mom's in trouble with CPS?

I'm not a social worker. I can't address the child protection issues.

But if they stick with treatment for the alcoholism, it will help get their children back.

What exactly do you do when one of these people come into your office?

The first step is an assesment, where I ask them loads of questions about their circumstances in order to determine their needs (like if they are homeless and need housing) or if they present a danger to staff or service users.

The next step is to get them an appointment for keywork. In that session, I (or another drugs worker) will help to think about how they can make changes in their lives and find solutions to some of their difficulties.

Every Blessing in Christ

Sounds like you are a social worker to me!

Its social care work, certainly. And although I am a drugs worker, I have to look at more than just drugs issues with the client.

But a social worker is a specially trained and qualified individual who is invested with authority by the state to protect the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
