Can somebody help me out?

Why is it that many conservatives take the view that mothers should not work if they are married, but it is imperative they work if they are single mothers?

hmm what about Proverbs 31? She's a mom and she works, a LOT. How does the Proverbs 31 woman fit into that view that married women shouldn't work? A lot of stay-at-home moms have been, in light of the proverbs 31 woman, starting home businesses so that they might do the whole deal, wife, SAH-mom and working woman. I think its great, and biblical.
Just my 2 cents...

I do not think there is any clear biblical teaching that wives or mothers should or should not go out to work.

Neither is an imperative in my view.

In reality we are so far off base in this society from a truly scriptual point of view. For instantance those that claim to be aderant to scriptual law. Is birth control in the bible. Stock markets, life insurance, old folk homes, etc. Use scripture as a guide not as a what practice is right

Anonymous, good point. We Evangelical Christians have a tendency to forget the cultural gulf between our era and the Biblical world.
