Times: Maria Barragan succeeds in getting adoptive parents jailed

Times: Maria Barragan succeeds in getting adoptive parents jailed

"In a landmark decision, a court in Buenos Aires sentenced a former military officer and the adoptive parents of one of the country’s many babies “stolen” during the dictatorship to prison for concealing the child’s identity and falsifying adoption documents."

A very interesting case.

Thanks for this. :)

As someone who was adopted at the age of six weeks by loving Christian parents and who happily traced my birth mother over a decade ago, this lady has my profoundest sympathy.

I am glad she has seen justice done, and I hope that will be true of others who were similarly betrayed.

I remember watching a film about this subject back in the 1980s. I was very shocked to learn that this had gone on in Argentina. It was monstrous.

Phillipa, thanks for visiting.

It is impossible to imagine the pain and anger this woman must feel.

But perhaps we should think about it from the other side as well.

Supposing I was in the military of a South American country during those dark times and I was unable to have children of my own and desperately wanted them.

If I knew of a child whose parents had been killed while in prison or police custody, would I not take advantage of that situation? I am sure I would have done.

Every Blessing in Christ
