A postmodern thought

I have lately been thinking it would be fun to wear Skinhead type clothing- an MA1 Bomber jacket, braces (braces are rather hard to come by in shops these days- too passe), Ben Sherman shirt, combat boots. That would be such an ironic postmodern statement.

I dont think I would do the haircut though. I think my side parting and no.2 at the back and sides is a right-wing enough haircut.

Only trouble with getting a pair of combat boots though, would be that they would take so long to lace and unlace. I could never wear them if I was going to somebody's house as a guest. I would be messing about for ages in their hallway undoing the ten eyelets.

Matthew, has anyone ever told you you're a comedy genius?!

Surely that was not that funny?

I imagine you saying it all deadpan, in the style of Jack Dee. It's very funny then.

Or maybe I've just got a strange sense of humour.

Steve,
I share you sense of humor - I regularly laugh at Matthew's posts - he really gives me many a chuckle. I am not sure if he intends to or not. :~)

Just to follow up this post; I bought a bomber jacket and a pair of 14-hole Doc Martens.

All you need now is a Union Jack vest and a skinhead haircut and then you join the National Front

How much did the Doc Martens cost? I am sure that they were awefully expensive!

Antonio, they were a bit expensive. I guess I am doing my bit to fight off the recession.

That and enjoying my birthday money. I did give some of it to Christian ministry, in case you are wondering, though.

God Bless

Colin, do you think the National Front would approve of my liberal views on immigration?

Are the NF still going? I remember boys used to circulate their Bulldog magazine round our school in Belfast in the mid - late 1970's with "Keep Britain Tidy" messages. So the answer is "probably not"

The National Front are still going. However, they have largely been overtaken by the British National Party, who have gone further than the NF in turning off the Neo-Nazi image. The BNP like to compare themselves with the NF. However, decent people find both groups contemptible.

I hate what these people stand for. However, I dont believe in censorship or repression of these groups except where they advocate violence.

From what I have heard Neo-Nazi groups on the whole failed to generate much support in Northern Ireland. I hope that is accurate.

With all their Union Jacks etc., the BNP didn't get anywhere in NI. A few of the Loyalist paramilitary types maybe (Johnny Adair) but I don't think they even have a city or town councillor anyhwere in the Province.

I suppose every generation spawns them, but the vast majority of decent people give them a very wide berth. Still...they're capable of keeping the racism thing going and that makes them dangerous enough.

My boss thought I looked great in my bomber jacket and 14 hole boots.

Colin, I think Neo-Nazis are a danger for the reason that you say, and also because some of these groups incite violence. I am glad our intelligence service keep an eye on them.

However, I think it is vital that people have the freedom to hold and express extreme and distasteful views.
